Why no Ads?

As of October 14, 2015, My California Roots will no longer be showing display ads on the sidebar or within posts. This is a decision I have grappled with since I started this blog, but I am going with my gut on this one.

I’ve never liked traditional display advertising advertising on my blog because the ads readers see aren’t necessarily related at all to the content on my blog, and that distracts from the reason why my readers (you!) came to my blog. You’re not here to see a car ad. You’re not even here to see an ad for the cool stereo you just looked at on Amazon.

You are here for the recipes. For the stories I tell. For the food I make and share with you.

And I don’t want to take that away from you. I want you to get what you came for on this blog, and I want to give it to you wholeheartedly.

From now on, any ads you see on My California Roots will be ads that I have specifically placed in the sidebar or elsewhere because I feel that the content is relevant to YOU. It may be for a brand of cheese that I really like, or for a cool new kitchen gadget that I think is awesome and will make your cooking life happier.

I also plan on writing more sponsored content, because I would only ever recommend brands that I love and that I honest-to-goodness think you should try. And sponsored content is a really awesome way to show you how I use a product, and how you can use it too. That’s way cooler than just a blinking ad in the sidebar.

If you have any questions about this, please contact me. I would love to hear your thoughts.

If you are a brand and are interested in working with me, please see my Work With Me page.

All the best!
