Happy Monday, friends! I am so excited to be sharing this Sun Basket review & giveaway with you today!
Back in December, I got an email from Sun Basket asking if I would like to review their meal delivery service. I was a bit hesitant because I don’t normally do “reviews,” but for some reason I decided to try it. And I am so glad I did!
AJ and I like to eat home as much as we can, and we only go out to eat maybe once per week. That means we cook a lot, and that also means that we shop a lot. Sometimes I don’t have the time or the energy to come up with super exciting meal ideas all the time, and that’s where Sun Basket comes in!
Sun Basket is a meal delivery service. That means that once per week, they send you a box (see below) that has everything you need to make your meals for the week. You can select how many servings you want, and you can even select which meals! They have so many options, and each week has at least 3 vegetarian ones.
When the boxes arrive, they are packed such that they can withstand 8 hours on your front porch before being refrigerated.
When you open the box, you get a few things. The first thing I noticed was a return packing slip that you attach to the box after you’ve unpacked it. This allows you to return the box, any packing materials, ice packs, and whatever else back to Sun Basket for reuse or recycling. I loved this feature, and think it’s a big plus for the company. Eco-friendliness is really important to me, so it was really neat to see that they put the planet first.
The next thing I noticed was how well everything was packaged! Veggies can be pretty delicate, but the box was packed so well that everything stayed cold and in perfect shape.
Each meal comes in a bag labeled with the meal name. This makes it so easy to remember all the ingredients when making your meal, and avoids having to dig around in the fridge to find things. I can’t tell you how often I finish a meal, take photos, and then say, “Shoot! I forgot to add the ____!” AJ gives me crap about it all the time. But with all the ingredients in one bag, there’s no need to worry about that!
Next up was the recipe cards. I really loved the layout of these, and the instructions were so easy to follow.
And then it was actually time to cook! I took a look at the ingredients for the recipes and decided which would need to be used first, and which could wait until later in the week. Sun Basket sources veggies from local west-coast farmers (many of whom are organic!), so everything is nice and fresh when it arrives at your door and can easily last until later in the week.
The first thing I made was the Kale & White Bean Soup with Cheese Toast. I didn’t take any photos of this recipe because I wanted to just try the process as it was intended to go. And it went great! The soup was hearty and filling, and the serving sizes actually fed the two of us with a bit left over. One of my big pet peeves is when a recipe says “serves 4,” but then you make it and find that it really only serves 2 at best. Not so with the Sun Basket recipes! Each one was designed to feed two, and there was definitely plenty to go around.
The next recipe was this awesome Butternut Squash Risotto. This time, I took some pictures of what the ingredients look like when you take them out of the bag.
Ta-da! The ingredients are clearly labeled just to avoid any confusion, which is a nice touch.
And the risotto, just like the soup, was delicious. All of the recipes are created by their in-house chef, so they pack some serious flavor. They all also had really nice extra touches that I probably wouldn’t have thought of if I had come up with the recipe idea myself, like the ricotta on top of the butternut risotto, for instance.
The last recipe we made was the Quinoa & Arugula Salad with Spiced Pita Croutons. This one was definitely my favorite since I LOVE grain bowls. And the spiced pita croutons were SO GOOD! This one was topped with a dollop of Greek yogurt and fried shallots, which came pre-prepared to cut down on prep time.
Overall, we really loved the Sun Basket, and I feel like it’s the perfect solution for those who want to eat well, but don’t want to worry about planning meals or coming up with recipe ideas. The recipes from Sun Basket are already vetted and guaranteed to be delicious!
Because I loved the Sun Basket so much, I’ve teamed up with them to give one lucky reader a free week of meals! This is worth almost $70, and I guarantee that you’ll absolutely love it. I mean, just check out their recipes for this week! I’m drooling just looking at them.
And as an extra bonus, anyone who signs up through any of the links on this page will get $30 off their first purchase! This is almost half off a meal service for two for a week, which means you’ll get 6 meals for less than $40! I don’t know of any way to eat cheaper than that, so it’s definitely worth it even if you do it for just one week!
The giveaway will run from today (Jan 18) until January 24, 2016, so be sure to get your entries in before it’s too late! Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter the giveaway:
