And it’s Saturday again. I spent a lot of this week reading up on some food photography in an attempt to have my submissions accepted on FoodGawker and TasteSpotting. It’s really quite amazing how I can think I have a great photo, be all proud of it and stuff, and then have it declined multiple times, no matter what I do to try to fix it. So I’m pouring over Helene Dujardin’s book, Plate to Pixel: Digital Food Photography & Styling, in hopes that some day I may take pictures half as beautiful as hers, showcased on her blog Tartelette.
I started with some muffins. They’re Oat & Cranberry, gluten free, and vegan. The recipe needs some tweaks, but I took some pictures anyway for practice, shown below. Marginal?
I am also really loving the 50mm lens my ex/current boss is letting me borrow. I don’t miss the zoom feature of my lens at all, and I love love the lower f-stop of 1.4 on the 50mm. I don’t think I’ll use it that low for most pictures, but my current lens only goes down to 5, which I’m not super happy with. I think I’ll purchase one once my bank account says it’s okay.
I’m really excited about this week’s menu. We just spent the morning meandering around the local Farmer’s Market, pictures of which I will be posting shortly, and spent all the cash in AJ’s wallet on whatever produce struck our fancy. This week it was English peas, the first batch of apricots, and another bunch of beets, among some other items.
