It’s here! The ring I’ve waited 6 weeks for has finally arrived. I’m so excited about it. It’s simple, a bit understated, and really beautiful.
Side note: I apologize for the blury/awkward pictures. No one ever told me taking pictures of a tiny object is exceedingly difficult.
Back in March, AJ proposed with a ring he had made himself out of bicycle spokes. It was so special and so heartfelt, I was really blown away. In the darkness that night, I couldn’t even see the ring, but I loved it already. It was huge for my tiny hands; it kind of fit on my thumb, but I wore it anyway. His intention was that he would give me that ring, and then we’d go pick out the diamond together. I struggled with this a bit at first, because I felt a bit guilty for wanting something other than what he made me, which was more than enough. We decided we’d go look at them, but you know how that goes. It’s like puppies: you don’t go look for a puppy and not come home with one (oops, this happened to us recently, also).
We found our way over to Keven Main Jewelry downtown a couple nights later, where everything that glitters was looking me straight in the face. I decided on a style I liked (simple and understated, with a round diamond in a 4-prong setting) and a price we felt okay with. Our price range was on the low end of the spectrum, which is expected since he’s pretty much the only bread winner around here. It actually worked out really nicely though, since the last thing I wanted was something gaudy. So, I picked out a few rings that seemed like they would fit the bill, and then had to make a decision.
The decision was surprisingly difficult. I was narrowed down to two rings, one of which I could have walked out of the store with that day, or the one I liked better that would take 4 weeks to arrive. I knew which one I should go for, but my toddler syndrome (I want it now!) had me stuck. Finally, with the help of AJ and the sales lady, I decided to wait. I had gone my whole life without it; I could wait a few weeks for the thing that I wouldn’t go the rest of my life without.
4 weeks later I got a call – the ring would be another 2 weeks. I was sad, but some other things in life had me distracted. However, two weeks later I was doing much better mentally, and a day before it was due they called. It was here!
Dog and I went downtown after work to pick it up, and it was perfect. I’m so, so excited I decided to wait. It’s much more “me” than the other one, and I think it’s prettier, too. The band is made by Artcarved, the diamond by Hearts on Fire (which means it’s incredibly sparkly). It’s perfectly sized so that my tiny fingers (size 4) don’t look overwhelmed. The picture below shows the part I most loved about the band – the twisting prongs that hold the diamond. I just thought the design was so simple and pretty.
I couldn’t be happier with it, or more thankful to AJ for being so supportive. And he paid for it. What a guy.
